Winstrol is a mild oral anabolic steroid which was first developed in the late 1950’s. When Winstrol was still in official production it was used clinically in the treatment of osteoporosis and dwarfism. As derivative of Testosterone it has been modified to reduce its masculinizing (androgenic) effects while preserving its tissue building (anabolic) effects. This effect results in accelerated development of muscle mass and as such is highly attractive to athletes and bodybuilders. Winstrol is the second most popular oral steroid in the bodybuilding community after Dianabol.
Winstrol does not aromatize, meaning it does not convert into estrogen in the body and so it does not promote water retention or gynomastia. This means the muscles look solid and thus Winstrol is popular for cutting and as preparation for contests.
In terms of dosage the bodybuilding community recommends between 15-25 mg of Stanozolol day for 6-8 weeks. For injectable Winstrol a dosage 50 mg EOD is suggested. Thanks to its minimized estrogenic effects Winstrol is also popular for stacking where it can often show significant results, although liver toxicity can become a hazard. For women 5-10 mg a day for 4-6 weeks is recommended. For injectable versions 50 mg every two to three weeks is suggested, although female bodybuilders are not advised to use this injectable as it limits the control they have over their hormone levels. Winstrol should not be ingested with food as fat from foods can absorb it. This is not a concern with the injectable version.
Side effects can include negatively affected cholesterol levels, body hair growth, acne, oily skin, testosterone suppression, male pattern hair loss, and liver damage. In fact, Winstrol is one of the harshest steroids on the liver and thus regular visits to a physician are advised to monitor liver function should one choose to use Winstrol. Women should watch out for a deepening in their voice, body and facial hair growth, menstrual irregularities, and clitoris enlargement.
