Tiromel is a synthetic hormone designed to stimulate the thyroid and affect the body’s metabolic rate. It is generally used to treat hypothyroidism and thus acts to accelerate ones metabolic processes. Tiromel has become an attractive supplement within the athletic and bodybuilding communities due to these attributes.
Hypothyroidism is a condition wherein one loses energy and gains weight (amongst other things) due to a slowdown of the metabolic rate and, since Tiromel acts to reverse these effects by releasing a hormone that speeds up this rate, it does the opposite by increasing energy and burning fat rapidly leading to weight loss. This makes it useful to bodybuilders who can implement Tiromel during a cutting phase in order to lose large amounts of body fat quickly, often in preparation for a contest. Tiromel is also fast acting which, although making less popular as a prescription treatment for hypothyroidism, makes it even more useful to bodybuilders.
Those intending to use Tiromel for off-label purposes should be careful to follow the dosage guidelines below in order to avoid potentially life-threatening side effects. The bodybuilding community advises a dosage of 25 mcg per day and, every 4-7 days, the user can add another 25 mcg to a maximum of 75 mcg a day for no longer than 6 weeks. After this point, instead of ceasing use completely, a user will need to use a follow the dosage guidelines in reverse as part of a step-down program, again in order to avoid side effects.
Tiromel Side Effects
The FDA has forced the producer of Tiromel to carry a warning that states that the drug has no appreciable effect on those with regularly functioning thyroids and large doses of the drug can result in lethal levels of toxicity. Using more than the suggested amount of Tiromel can cause heart issues (palpitations, angina, and heart failure), excessive sweating, loss of bowel control, irritability and headaches, shock, and hyperthyroidic symptons. With excessive consumption this may result in death. If used without a steroid Tiromel will target the body’s muscles over fat as an energy source.
Tiromel is typically found in tablet form with concentrations varying from 5 mcg to 50 mcg. Never use an injectable version of this drug. Due to its age and wide use Tiromel is easy to find both under its trade name and as a generic drug.
