Use For: To eliminate rising Estrogen levels at its root cause: aromatase. By disabling the aromatase enzyme, supraphysiological levels of aromatizable androgens (such as Testosterone, Sustanon, Dianabol, EQ 300, EQ 500, etc.) cannot convert into Estrogen, thereby eliminating any possible risk of Estrogen-related side effects.
Many anabolic and androgenic steroids are converted into estrogen in the body and, for men, this results in undesirable side effects such as gynecomastia, fat buildup, and water retention (which can hide muscles under a layer of definition-softening water). Arimidex works by actively blocking the aromatase enzyme and hence the process which is responsible for many of the negative side-effects commonly associated with the excess estrogen. By supplementing with Arimidex, such problems can be greatly reduced and frequently eliminated completely. Supplemental use can actively inhibit the estrogen conversion process and decrease the amount of estrogen within the body hence preventing binding to the receptors of the body.
Arimidex can be taken while on cycle as well as during post cycle therapy though most users will find it is most effective while on cycle and the use of SERMs to be more useful during the post-cycle. However, when on cycle, Arimidex is much more beneficial and more highly effective; more so even than SERMs, though they can be just as useful in cases such as this as well. AIs like Arimidex will significantly lower estrogen levels while SERMs including Nolvadex and Clomid will not. SERMs such as these will only block estrogen binding and even then they will not completely block all of it nor will they reduce total levels. It is important to note, however, that as Arimidex will reduce total levels, excess quantities will drastically lower estrogen to a point that it will begin to hinder gains. This is because certain levels of estrogen are needed for tissue growth as well as for a properly functioning body.
The process by-which Arimidex decreases estrogen levels is also the primary reason it is not considered a preferred in post-cycle routines. Although it will heighten testosterone levels post-cycle, the reduction in estrogen is too great to be entirely effective and SERMs tend to be the preferred choice in these cases.
Low doses while on cycle; 0.5 mgEOD, is usually sufficient though certain users may require doses as high as 1 mg in order to combat side effects from the use of anabolic steroids. 1 mg is the generally accepted maximum dose for those on the competitive bodybuilding circuit and they will frequently supplement with 1 mg every day leading up to a competition. Short periods of high dosing will lend the users physique a harder, dryer look though the effects are short lived; lasting only 7-14 days. This is due to the body requiring some estrogen for proper functioning. After use of anabolic steroids is completed and the post-cycle routine begins, ceasing anabolic steroids entirely while starting therapy with a SERM like Nolvadex or Clomid is optimal as these will increase natural testosterone production while allowing appropriate levels of estrogen to accumulate within the body. Arimidex has also been known to negatively affect blood lipids.
AstraZenca, the producer of Arimidex, recently had their patent expire so users can expect generic products which may lower prices.
