Accutane, a form of vitamin A, is a supplemental drug taken in tandem with various other anabolic or androgenic steroids to combat unwanted side-effects. Agents frequently used in concurrence with Accutane include Deca-Durabolin, Equipoise, Testosterones (including Cypionate, Propionate, and Enanthate) and Trenbolone. Accutane is also used in the treatment of lamellar and harlequin-type icthyosis as well as in chemotherapy treatment for certain types of cancer.

Accutane Usage

Originally developed to treat severe acne, Accutane has has shown itself to be an effective counter to skin related side effects caused by androgen including prolific acne on the shoulders, back and face. It accomplishes this by decreasing the amount of oil released by the glands in the users skin. The recommended dose for body building or athletic applications is approximately 10-20 mg a day for 6 to 8 weeks. Dosages in this range are high enough to be effective but low enough to be safe and reduce side-effects.

It is important not to take too much Accutane at once. An overdose is usually indicated by a headache, vomiting, stomach pain or discomfort, tingling or warmth under the skin, lips swelling, dizziness and loss of balance. In the event of an overdose it is advisable to seek medial attention.

Accutane Side Effects

Side effects related to Accutane include depression and severe birth defects. It should never be used by pregnant women. These are usually only limited to high dosages however and when used as a low dose supplement to treat the effects of other steroids the expected side effects rarely extend beyond dry skin and slightly lowered HDL cholesterol levels. In certain cases mild increases in triglyceride levels may be experienced.

Due to the effects of Accutane on the skin, it is prudent to discontinue any waxing or laser hair-removal during the cycle and for up to six months afterwards. Failure to do so may result in scarring. Accutane also makes skin more sensitive to UV light including tanning beds and as a result more prone to sunburns. Caution is advised if tanning is undertaken in order to avoid potentially painful burns or even permanent damage.
